Good morning, Edenton Residents, Family Members and Staff;

I would like to provide you with two updates.
1. The first round of testing for the outbreak defined last week for Orchard Terrace, Blossom Place and Fiddlers Green – received all negative results for residents and one positive test for an employee. The second round of testing will begin Tuesday this week. Per health dept guidelines, an outbreak lasts for 14 days, and we will continue our daily shift observations as we always provide for staff and Residents.

Late Friday, The MD Department of Health issued actions that we may follow based on new updates from the CDC and CMS. Primarily, one of the updates reads that “quarantine is no longer recommended for fully vaccinated patients with exposure to SARS CoV 2 or those patients who have had SARS CoV 2 infection in the prior 90 days”. What does this mean for us? After receiving negative tests from the first round, I released Residents (from OT, FG, and BP) from their room quarantine yesterday.

Regarding visitation for the three AL buildings included in this outbreak, we can offer outside scheduled visitation. Call Edenton for your appointment, then go to the Manor House for screening and visitor sticker. We will need to wait to resume regular scheduled indoor visitation, except in the cases of Hospice care or compassionate care visits, until we get thru this week’s round of testing. (These are also new guidelines approved by MDH as we navigate this pandemic.)

2. Vaccine Booster and Flu Shot – In consultation with Dr. Hemen Shah, Edenton’s medical director, Edenton is moving forward to schedule the booster vaccine for Residents and Staff. Dr. Shah prefers that Residents receive the booster that follows their initial series received at the beginning of 2021.
a. Edenton Residents and Staff who received the two dose Pfizer vaccine series earlier this year can be scheduled to receive the Pfizer booster vaccine on September 23rd which will be offered on campus by CVS Pharmacy. I am still awaiting final confirmation and the necessary documentation from CVS pharmacy to begin the enrollment. Edenton has everyone’s vaccine details and we have begun to schedule times for the vaccine. AL Residents will be scheduled in time blocks and receive the booster vaccine in their building.
b. Moderna booster and the annual flu vaccine – On October 7th, Whitesell Pharmacy will be on campus to provide the Moderna vaccine booster and the annual flu vaccine. The annual flu vaccine is the regular vaccine and not the high dose offered by some pharmacies.

For all vaccine boosters and flu shots, once enrollment and consent forms are received, we will reach out to Residents and family members as needed.

If I can answer any question or provide you with additional information, please reach out to me or another member of our team.
