Dear Edenton Residents, Family Member and Staff:
Last week, the FDA amended the Emergency Use Authorization for the Pfizer vaccine and is allowing the use of a single booster dose to those who previously received the 2-part Pfizer vaccine series, at least six months ago.
I wanted to wait a few days for the dust to settle and make sure no other changes occurred. As you know, this has been a rapidly evolving situation and we are trying to monitor the specifics for everyone – Residents and Staff.
On Tuesday October 26th, Whitesell Pharmacy will be on campus to administer the Pfizer Booster vaccine. Since the annual flu vaccine is already scheduled for next Thursday, October 7th, out of an abundance of caution, Edenton is waiting at least two weeks until the Pfizer vaccine will be administered.
While the FDA and CDC recommendations differ slightly, the two agencies agree that long term care residents and staff who completed their Pfizer primary series six months ago should receive the booster dose. Any Edenton Resident and staff member who received the Pfizer primary series prior to May 1, 2021, can get the booster vaccine on October 26th.
We are awaiting what information and paperwork Whitesell Pharmacy needs to be completed for the booster vaccine. Edenton will complete as much of this as possible. Just like the annual flu consent forms, a signature is needed. IL residents can sign their own forms. AL and memory care Residents who are permitted to sign will do so. Any AL resident who needs a family member to sign on their behalf, please contact Edenton to plan for the consent forms to be signed.
Be careful of telephone calls offering you appointments for booster vaccines. Edenton has made these arrangements for you so that you do not need to leave the campus and we are using a local reputable pharmacy. Please do not give out any personal information over the phone to telephone scam callers.
If Moderna and Janssen get booster vaccines approved, Edenton will also coordinate a clinic here on campus. If I can answer any question or provide you with additional information, please reach out to me or another member of our team.
Be Well,
RaeAnn Butler
