October Outing: Mount Olivet Cemetery Tour
Lisa Ambrose, Life Enrichment Director
Let’s take a step back in time! We’ve planned a guided tour of Mount Olivet Cemetery with historian Chris Haugh for Tuesday, Oct. 29 at 1 p.m.
He’ll hop on the bus and share his knowledge of this historic cemetery… a place that offers a unique glimpse at Frederick’s storied past. Mr. Haugh, an award-winning historian, researcher, writer and filmmaker, is Mount Olivet’s Historic Preservation Manager. The tour begins at the final resting place of Francis Scott Key, famous for penning The Star-Spangled Banner.
If you’re interested in local history, join us. This is one trip you won’t want to miss!
Blue Ribbon Effort
Jennifer Holmes, Assistant Administrator
Harriet Sampieri brought home blue ribbons from The Great Frederick Fair this year for each of her entries in the Needlepoint on Plastic Division. She crafted a tissue box cat, a Halloween village, Easter Bunny and Santa decorations, a framed floral piece, and a lined tote bag featuring clowns, which won the category’s Best of Show. Harriet has been exhibiting for years and always wins ribbons, but she really crafted it out of the park this year!
Page Turner’s Book Club
This month’s book selection is Lessons In Chemistry by Bonnie Garmus.
Meet Elizabeth Zott: “a gifted research chemist, absurdly self-assured and immune to social convention” (The Washington Post) in 1960s California whose career takes a detour when she becomes the unlikely star of a beloved TV cooking show.
Join us at 3 p.m. in the library on Thursday, Oct. 24 for the discussion.

Bayada presents…””Proper Nutrition with Diabetes”
Michele Price, RN, Director of HomeCare
Learn about proper nutrition for those living with diabetes with Bayada Home Health this month. Here are a few topics that will be covered during the presentation:
Have you heard of the term glycemic index? This refers to a ranking of how different carbohydrates affect blood sugar.
When you are living with Type 2 diabetes, it is key to eat foods that do not cause a major spike in your blood sugar.
Processed foods have a much higher glycemic index, causing a drastic blood sugar increase, than whole foods.
Foods with a low glycemic index of 55 or less are foods that are better to eat when you have diabetes or want to avoid developing diabetes.
Join us on Tuesday, October 1, in the Community Room, for the presentation. Tuesday, October 1 at 10 a.m. “Proper Nutrition with Diabetes” presented by Bayada Home Health
