Summer has quickly passed us by, but that means that the hustle and bustle of the Great Frederick Fair is right around the corner. Let’s all get EGG-cited for the fair as this year they celebrate the 163rd year.

Can’t you just smell the fair food? Pit beef, corn dogs, Italian sausages and those salty but delicious country ham sandwiches.

Independent residents will be venturing off for a day at the fair on Tuesday, September 16 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. It’s an $8 fee which includes transportation and entry. Sign up early to reserve your spot.

Little league and Fair Week

This month, we’re tipping our caps to Fair Week in Frederick and to the world of Little League Baseball. At Orchard Terrace, we’re stepping up to the plate with a full lineup of themed activities celebrating America’s favorite  pastime. From a variety of fair games and classic snacks during Fair Celebration Week, to heartfelt discussions about Little League and moments that shaped our youth, there’s something for everyone.

Page Turner’s Book Club

This month’s selection is

Forgotten on Sunday by Valérie
Perrin.

Justine is 21 and has lived with her grandparents and cousin since the death of her parents. She works at a retirement home and spends her days listening to residents’ stories.

One day, trouble arrives with a mysterious phone call that shakes the retirement home to it’s core & uncovers a shocking revelation.

Join us in the library at 3 p.m. on Thursday, September 25
for this month’s book discussion.

We celebrate this month…

Fall still life with pumpkins and corn
As we begin to head for Fall we have so much to celebrate and participate in during a jam packed September!

Some of the things we will be exploring Remembering Patriots Day, International Coconut Day, National Wildlife Day, a visit from Musician Brian Burrows, Tai Chi Classes, National Care Bears Share Your Care Day and Hands That Speak: Discovering ASL!

So please come join in the fun!

Resident Spotlight

This month’s resident spotlight shines on Mrs. Constance Jean Gaines! Born and raised in Washington, D.C., Jean enjoyed a quiet childhood and graduated from Eastern High School in 1947. She married Thomas, her late husband of 60 years, in 1948 and they had two daughters.

We are so glad Jean is a part of our community
