National Wear Red Day is Friday, February 6

National Wear Red Day is held every year the first Friday in February as a day to support women by wearing red. It brings attention to the number one killer of women: heart disease. Cardiovascular dis-
ease takes a woman’s life about every 80 seconds.

Caring for your heart with a healthy diet and regular physical activity is the secret weapon to preventing heart disease. Managing stress is also very important for heart health. Don’t forget to get regular checkups and monitor your blood pressure, cholesterol, and other risk factors.

So, on Friday, February 6, wear your red! Together we are stronger than heart disease and stroke. Let’s show support and stand united in the fight against heart disease.

Valentine’s Day

Valentine’s Day is celebrated annually on February 14. It’s a holiday where we show love and affection to those who matter the most to us.

Its roots trace back to the story of Saint Valentine. Over time it has grown into a popular celebration. Today, people give flowers, cards, chocolates and other meaningful gifts. Valentine’s Day is a chance to
celebrate friends and family with simple acts of love and affection.

Floral Design Day

National Floral Design Day happens annually on February 28. It recognizes the art and history of floral design. For thousands of years floral design has been a cultural art. This is the day we celebrate this
special art form. Floral design is a multi-billion-dollar industry that brightens the lives of people on a daily basis.

Floral Design Day was created as a unique way to celebrate the birthday of Carl Rittner, the founder of Rittner’s School of Floral Design in Boston. He was a pioneer in floral art education.

On Saturday, February 28 at 11 a.m., Fiddler’s Green residents will show off their floral design skills as we make flower arrangements for our dining tables.

National Inventors Day

National Inventor’s Day is celebrated on February 11. It honors all inventors for their contributions to society. It highlights their ingenuity, drive, and creativity. The date was chosen to coincide with Thomas Edison’s birthday. Did you know Thomas Edison held over 1,000 patents, including the patents for the phonograph and the light bulb?

Join Fiddler’s Green on Wednesday, February 11 at 11 a.m. during History Makers. We’ll explore several inventors who made a huge impact on our world today.

National Tell A Fairytale Day

National Tell a Fairy Tale Day is celebrated on February 26. It’s a celebration of stories that spark imagination and take us back to child hood. On this day people read, write, and share fairy tales from old
classics. Join Blossom Place on Thursday, February 26 at 2:30 p.m. as we tell our own fairy tales and look back at our favorite classics.

Bayada presents…

“Understanding Non-Alzheimer’s Dementia”

Michele Price, RN, Director of HomeCare

Learn about non-Alzheimer’s dementia this month with Bayada Home Health:

  1. Frontotemporal Dementia is a type of dementia that affects the frontal/temporal lobes. This
causes personality changes, behavioral issues, and typically language deficits. This type of
dementia has a stronger genetic link than Alzheimer’s-related dementia.
  2. Vascular Dementia is caused by a reduction in blood flow to the brain. This can affect a per-
son’s judgment, planning abilities, and sometimes cause walking and balance deficits.
  3. Lewy Body Dementia presents with cognitive fluctuations, visual hallucinations, and often
    Parkinson’s-like mobility issues.
  4. Parkinson’s Disease Dementia develops specifically in someone who has been diagnosed
with Parkinson’s disease, and impacts memory, social judgment and language.
