Mark your Calendars, It’s open enrollment for Medicare
Open enrollment for Medicare runs from October 15th to Dec 7th. This is the key time of year for Medicare beneficiaries to review the current health plan and prescription drug coverage. This is when changes can be made for the coming year.
The Medicare Part D prescription plan is one plan you should review each year during open enrollment. You can use Medicare’s plan comparison tool (medicare.gov/plan-compare) to input the list of medications you take and compare plan costs. This way you can compare the premium, as well as out-of-pocket costs such as co-pays and deductibles.
If you are enrolled in a Medicare Advantage plan, you also have the ability to review and edit these plans during the open enrollment for plans to be effective Jan 1st.
Maryland’s State Health Insurance Assistance Program (SHIP) provides free, confidential and unbiased one on one counseling to help understand the options and compare plans.
