Exercise is good for ALL

Edenton is glad that David Libden has joined the team to help with exercise and wellness. David is leading exercise classes three times a week. He has been working with residents to help set health and fitness goals, track progress for each person and is a great coach.

David brings lots of experience to the residents. An active person who continually works to maintain and improve his own physical health, David just completed a triathlon in Waynesboro PA – Strokes, Spokes and Strides. He finished 5th in his division. He swam 300 meters, biked 13 miles and ran 3.1 miles!

Regular physical activity and exercise are important for people of all ages. Staying physically active and exercising regularly can produce long-term health benefits and even improve health for some older people who already have diseases and disabilities. It can be difficult. Many factors can get in the way of leading a healthy and active lifestyle as we get older.

In fact, in most cases we each have more to lose by not being active. Here are just a few of the benefits of exercise and physical activity:

Can help maintain and improve your physical strength and fitness.

Can help improve your ability to do the everyday things you want to do.

Can help improve your balance.

Can help manage and improve diseases like diabetes, heart disease, and osteoporosis.

Can help reduce feelings of depression and may improve mood and overall well-being.

May improve your ability to shift quickly between tasks, plan an activity, and ignore irrelevant information.

The key word in all these benefits is YOU — how fit and active you are now and how much effort you put into being active.

Most people tend to focus on one activity or type of exercise and think they’re doing enough. The goal, however, is to be creative and choose a variety of exercise to work on  endurance, strength, balance, and flexibility. You may not be ready for a triathlon, but David is here to help you reach your goals.
