Job Description : Medication Technician
Supervisor: Director of Nursing
Requirements:
- Must have a current certification as a Medication Technician with the State of Maryland registry
- Must be current in First Aid and CPR certification
- Must possess a valid Driver’s License
- Experience with Alzheimer’s and other Dementia related diseases
- Ability to lift a minimum of 25-30 lbs. and push/pull occupied wheelchairs
- Ability to use stairs
- Must have basic knowledge of computers for documentation and charting
A Medication Technician provides a variety of services to a resident as follows and as needed:
- Supervise resident self-administering medications per physician’s direction
- Administer medications in accordance with physician orders to residents as directed and follow the MD Board of Nursing guidelines as directed by the Delegating Nurse supervising your actions
- Keep nurse manager or Director of Nursing informed regarding medications needing a refill and difficulty in receiving medications that have been ordered.
- Provide direction/supervision to nursing assistant to assure quality care is rendered
- Assist and/or provide activities of daily living to residents
- Take vital signs as directed and as needed for change in condition and following incident
- Provide resident escorts as needed for services
- Complete resident/facility laundry as scheduled
- Keep accurate daily flow charting of residents under direct care
- Administer First Aid or CPR if needed
- Notify nursing supervisor and/or Director of Nursing of any change in resident(s) health status or condition.
- The responsibility of nursing staff is to be continuously alert and attentive to any changes
a. in status and/or need for intervention for the persons who are in their care. Sleeping in this setting is unsafe nursing behavior and is therefore a violation of the Nursing Practice Act
- Prepares residents and pantry/dining room for meals
- Assist with housekeeping duties as needed to maintain a clean, safe and sanitary environment for residents and staff at all times (i.e., wiping up spills, vacuum, dusting, and bathroom cleaning, etc.)
- Assist residents in getting to and from activities. Provide redirection of behaviours and appropriate activity intervention when resident is unable to participate in group events or activities with others
- Maintain the confidentiality and privacy of resident and their information at all times
- Perform other duties as assigned by supervisor
